MSNBC works for me, or am I working for them?
Lars posted this last night. I thought to myself, “wow, text being covered up by navigation – how could this be?” So, I whipped out my safari and, and after a quick search for the article found that it worked just fine for me. I then dismissed his complaint as something to do with his screwy linux setup.
But wait – I shouldn’t be too hasty. I looked at his image and noticed that the gigantic ”$145,000 Mortgage for the price of a can of beans” ad wasn’t on his screen. Aha – if you get rid of the ad the right bar covers up part of the article preventing you from reading further. Pretty clever MSNBC. Is this the next way to ensure you don’t block ads? Or just an example of bad use of floats in the xhtml?

Oh ho Mac snob, it wasn’t Linux, eh? :p Man that’s a tough call, I wouldn’t put it past them to do something like that, from the past experience of watching them find new ways to get around blocking techniques (e.g. inline floated flash ads, since pop-up blockers were killing true pop-ups), but my bet is on incompetence, given how common that is on the web.
